hello everyone,

I am excited to join this site and hopefully gain info regarding my Cimo heritage.

I know little about my Grandfather - Sam Cimo from Alia - because he left my grandmother in the USA and we think immigrated back to Alia. I have seen records that show he was born anywhere from 1882 to 1886 in Alia. Any help on where to start would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi, and welcome to the forum. There are several record from Alia available on the FamilySearch site: familysearch.org/pal:/...%3D1947613
The surname appears to be Cimò with an accent on the final "o", to help the search you should know what was your grandfather's Italian given name (Sam does not sound as Italian). Where you able to find any record about his immigration in the US?

His name was Samuel and his mother was Panepinto Barbaso. I do not know when he immigrated to the USA.

I believe his Italian given name was Salvatore son of Antonino and Barbara Panepinto, born feb 24 1883 in Alia (Palermo province) his father was 39yo when Salvatore was born. The birth record is available here: familysearch.org/pal:/...1022261478
He also had at least 5 siblings: Grazia (1877), Giovanna 1880, Rosaria 1885, Giovanni 1891 and Vincenzo 1880

Antonino and Barbara Panepinto married on April 9 1871 (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-27308-1798-73?cc=1947613&wc=MM54-M7Q:98706769 bottom right)
Antonino was 27yo, son of the deceased Giuseppe and the living Santa Ponzio
Barbara was 15yo, daughter of deceased Giovanni and the living Grazia Lo Iaso(sp?)

Livio,
Grazie!!! This information is so helpful in beginning my search. I am very excited with all you have helped me with so far. The last time my 87 year old mother saw her father, she was 13 years old.

Grazie,
Camille

I hope to eventually trace where Salvatore Cimo lived after 1942 and whether he immigrated back to Italia and if and when he died there. That is my goal in searching for answers. On my father's side of the family - LoBello from Torino -- I hope to find my great grandfather - F.C. Zanetti. It is fun to search for your ancestors and I am grateful that you have given me a good start!

Grazie,
Camille
