I have been searching for information on Bennett for quite some time. He was married to Bathsua Hotten in Probus, Cornwall, England. They had 2 children that immigrated to the US in 1846. There may have been other children but have not been able to find any info whether census or otherwise. The children were James Yeoman b. 1 Apr 1813, traveling with his wife Elizabeth Pentecost and his sister Phillipa Yeoman (F) b. 1790. I have their manifest and family records for James.

I have not located what happened to Phillipa after coming to the US.

Since my exhusband is a direct descendent of James and his family they were easy to track. Elizabeth Pentecost's parents came to the US about 1852. James and Elizabeth named one of their children John Hotten Yeoman which leads me to believe there is some connection to the Hotten family.

Any information would be great.

Regards
Barb

Barb,

Can you link a copy of the manifest you found? I would like to see it.

Thanks

I will attempt the link for the 1846 manifest. This is James Yeoman and his family. Bennett and Bathsua did not come to the US as far as I can tell.

I hope this works.

I forgot to add, Elizabeth (Pentecost) Yeoman's parents, Lewis and Mary Pentecost also immigrated to the US but have only found Mary Manuel's manifest and not Lewis.

So Philippa lied about her age? She claims she's 35 on the manifest...

Did they end up settling in Boston? The only record I can find with this limited info would be for a Fanny Scott. Fanny could be a translated name for Filippa. And her children were all born in Mass (the oldest 15 which would be about the time she arrived in the US)..

1850 United States Federal Census
about Fanny Scott
Name: Fanny Scott
Age: 59
Estimated birth year: abt 1791
Birth Place: England
Gender: Female
Home in 1850(City,County,State): Brighton, Middlesex, Massachusetts

I know its a long shot but this is just quick looking. Cooking dinner now but I promise to come back and have another go at it later this evening. I love a challenge.

Phillipa was single when she arrived in the US. Don't know where she went. I did find something that said she was a servant in a census for 1850. I was wondering if she was indentured to someone. I have not been able to get a good fit since there is no record for 1860 in the Boston area where she may have lived. James, her brother, was a farmer and settled in Illinois where his father-in-law Lewis Pentecost was living. He settled just down the road from him.

I believe there was a mistake in the recording of the Yeoman group that arrived on 10th September 1846. Looking at the manifest the name is clearly PHILLIP and not Phillipa. He follows the two adults, one 'Male' and one 'Female', and should (I believe) be the first of the 'Males!

Phillip Yeoman
Arrival Date: 10 Sep 1846
Age: 35 Years
Estimated birth year: abt 1811
Gender: Female ???
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Ship Name: Sunbeam
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Microfilm Roll Number: M277_22

That is probably why you have found no trace - try looking for Phillip instead....
