Crying or Very sad I posted this on my blog - but thought it bears note here too -- L'Aquila was hit by another earthquake this past week - 4.6 on the richter scale - please do not forget them! The news does not seem to be remembering them - the needs go on and on here - especially the need for our prayers! Sad

Same area - people were pretty shook up - and it was felt in Rome. I know -- seems the news ignored it this time! I read some on Twitter and then found it in one of the RSS feeds I get that is set to bring me any news of Italy.

There was a bit about it on the news here and it has been discussed on a small forum I belong to which is mainly non Italians (like me) who have homes in Italy. Some actually live in the L'Aquila and Abruzzo areas and were very scared. They, and the forum are still fundraising for the animals who have lost their owners, or have nowhere to go, and so are being kept in the local pound and looked after by volonteers. At the moment there are over 400 dogs there, and the forum group raised, and scrounged, enough to be able to take 3/4s of a ton of food and equipment to the pound. Two of the ladies even adopted dogs!

G8: 'No earthquake risk to leaders'[u]
Police barracks can stand up to strong quakes, Frattini says
(ANSA) - Rome, June 24 - Group of Eight leaders will not face earthquake risks at July's G8 summit in the Abruzzo capital of L'Aquila, Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said Wednesday.

Frattini said the police barracks that will host the summit and where leaders will stay had been constructed according to anti-quake building norms and was ''able to stand up to quakes much stronger'' than the 5.8 Richter magnitude quake that devastated the area in April, killing 300 and leaving 60,000 homeless.

Frattini's comments came a day after Civil Protection chief Guido Bertolaso said he could not guarantee that ''there will not be earthquakes during the G8'' as aftershocks rumble on in the region months after the killer quake.

Bertolaso also stressed the strength of the barracks, which were not damaged in April. ''To cause problems there would need to be an earthquake (of a magnitude) that has never before been recorded in L'Aquila's history in the memory of humankind,'' he said.

Hundreds of people left their newly repaired homes in L'Aquila Monday night and slept in their cars after a 4.5 Richter magnitude quake revived memories of the April quake.

No one was hurt but some parts of shaky buildings are being inspected.

Premier Silvio Berlusconi has promised the homeless will be given permanent homes before winter.

He moved the July 8-10 Group of Eight summit to the city to help boost morale and get the local economy back on its feet.

I thought this may be of interest to folk who have family or friends in Italy. This is the running information on 'scosse' (tremors) in Italy. On the r/h side is the table recording every one - however slight. A tremor is a tremor! I was quite surprised to see a solitary tremor recorded quite near (80 miles) to me on the 18th June (but it was only 2.5 magnitude so difficult to identify...
