I am posting this for a friend at my FHC. Not sure what we have here but only the 4th paragraph needs translation. This 4th paragraph mentions the surname Garzotto. These records are from near Venice.
Any help would be appreciated. www.montaltouffugo.inf.../scan1.jpg
Luca - now would be a good time for that vacation at the beach! hide

It's not italian: it's a dialect from the Veneto (quite different from mine)!
There are a few words I can't understand. I'll post it in an italian site of genealogy where, I know, someone could help us.

Thanks to Moscjon, Mattmar, Simona and Luca Bertotti (and I hide ) members of TuttoGenealogia.it www.tuttogenealogia.it...file=index
this is the literal translation:

Alli 25 X(m)bris [1651]

In modern italian (with actual names):

Il 25 Dicembre 1561
Io Don Domenico de Bartoli battezzai Giovanni Natalino figlio del Signor Agostino di Giovanni, padrini Antonio Sponza del Signor Biagio, Domenico Testa, Giacomo Cusin e Bartolo Garzotto, madrine Simona figlia di Francesco Mantovani, Marina figlia del defunto Signor Francesco Binussi e Domenica figlia del Signor Biagio Sponza.

In the day 25 of December of the year 1561 the priest Domenico de Bartoli gave the baptism to Giovanni Natalino son of Agostino di Giovanni, there were 4 godfather ( Antonio Sponza , Domenico Testa, Giacomo Cusin e Bartolo Garzotto) and three godmother (Simona Mantovani, Marina Binussi e Domenica Sponza).

Two notes:
1) i'm not sure if Di Giovanni was a surname or the grandfather's name.
2) there is a remote probability that Giovanni and Natalino were two childrens and not one, because of a "e" between the names; but I think is a second name given to honour the Christmas day.

As usual: sorry for my bad English Embarassed

Luca

Thank you Luca and Cathy so much- I was thinking about this all weekend and this just made my day. I can't tell you how happy I am. Cathy, I can't wait to get back to the LDS and find more- I read on the internet that Venetian is as close to Latin as it is modern Italian. I am pretty sure that my grandmother, who would be about 115 years old, spoke Venetian.:kissy:Marilyn

I reread my translation, (as the first time I could hardly breathe) and I also want to thank Moscjon, Mattmar, and Simona. Thank you for taking the time to look at this document. I will stare at this all day. Heck with work!!!
