Hello everone,

I was at the FHC tonight. And I was talking to a couple of member. And they were saying that in about a year or two. That the films were going to be online. Has everyone else heard about this? I hope so. That would be great and of course a lot easier.

Wink

Yes, there are going to be a lot of records online. Not sure if you heard about the transcription project the LDS had/has going on. I did sign up but I had some issues so I haven't been able to transcribe much.

I need to look for the link and I'll post it here.

Yes the LDS church has been saying this for some time (I first heard it from my local FHC director in 2003). The actual images from the microfilm will be online, provided they can get permission from the original record holders.

I can't even imagine what that would be like, if and when it happens I probably wont leave my pc for a year!!

Very Happy

If they can get permission? I had not heard that part - My FHC director says will be not if. Is there a possibility they won't be? She also told me before summer that the films were taking longer to get because they were pulling so much staff from the main library to copy the films. But when summer came it got better because the kids were out of school and are helping out. Of course mine has been closed for almost 2 weeks - I am going through withdrawl!!! Shocked

When I started my genealogy, 15 years ago..we didnt even have the internet. I belonged to the prodigy services, where they had some genealogy forums..but there were only a few Italians there..so it wasnt really very informative.

I remember wishing that I could have my own film reader..and the fhl would allow films to be taken out. (Pipe dreams..lol)

I couldnt believe it when we got the ellis island site. It was so slow and clunky at the beginning. Then came ancestry with their censuses. That was also super slow, with bad looking copies, in the beginning.

I would pay anything the fhl charged to get Italian records online.

I find it very hard to believe..that the records we want most..these individual towns, are what they are copying to put online. I get the feeling that before they would do anything like that..they would put online the american records. But, who knows. I just have a gut feeling, that it wont be what we want most.

I hope I am wrong. You can all thumb your noses and me..and make funny faces with your mouth and tongue..lol
