From The Cork Examiner, 3 December 1861
On the 26th ult., at his residence, 2, Tenterden-street,
Hanover-square, London, aged 71, James Adolphus Moore, Esq.,
R.M.A., grandson of Sir Emanuel Moore, Bart., county of Cork."

James, do you have an URL for the 2 references?

Livio, here are the references:

Marriage of James A. Moore to Jane Austin 1828

The 1861 Obituary for James Adolphus Moore

This also might be of interest, as you descend from this family. I am not sure where James Adolphus fits in, but you can see the family details of Sir Emmanuel Moore Bart.

Moore of Ross Carberry, Co. Cork, Ireland

Right column top, you can see the Moore sucession. You must look to the Lineage section (immediately following) for details on your Emmanuel. You do not descend (of course) from the 9th Baronet, but rather from his grandfather Emmanuel, who married 1742, Anne, daughter and heiress of Allen Brown Esq. of Surmount, near Cork.

Sadly the later Moore family of Carberry fell into dire circumstances. Here is a paragraph on the last three Baronets:

OBITUARY in The Illustrated London News on 8 July 1882:

Sir Richard Emanuel Moore, tenth Baronet, of Ross Carberry, County Cork, whose death is just announced, was born in 1810, the eldest son of Sir Emanuel Moore, ninth Baronet, and succeeded his father in 1849. He married, first, in 1839, Mary Anne, daughter of Mr Arthur R O'Connor; and secondly, in 1851, Margaret Matilda, daughter of Mr Roger O'Connor, by the former of whom he leaves a son and successor, now Sir Thomas O'Connor Moore, eleventh Baronet. Although the representative of a baronetcy conferred so far back as 1681, Sir Richard Emanuel Moore was a sad instance of the misery of a landless title. At one time he held the situation of third-class turnkey at Spike Island, and subsequently was reduced to the direst need. After vainly endeavouring to support himself by selling among the county families a book written by his wife, the poor Baronet opened a coal store in his son's name, but his want of capital defeated this his last venture.

The title ended with Sir Thomas Moore's death in 1926. His son John was a soldier and was killed in the Zulu wars in South Africa. John had been engaged to marry Eleanor Whelan when he was posted to South Africa. He never came home and Eleanor was left holding the baby. She ran away to Liverpool in England and raised her son in Manchester.

Look to February 26 on the page which you see for your entry...

What you are looking at is a digital image of the book:

The Register Book of Marriages belonging to the Parish of St. George, Hanover Square in the County of Middlesex Volume IV 1824-1837 Published London, 1897

It is as good a source of reference as the actual registers (I'm sure most would agree) and contains the precise entry which appears on the actual page of the handwritten registry.

You may also order (if you wish) James Adolphus Moore's death record the same way you ordered his daughter Jane's marriage to James Drake, here is the reference:

Death:
Name: James Adolphus Moore
Year of Registration: 1861
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: St George Hanover Square
County: London, Middlesex
Volume: 1a

That's odd Livio... I see it fine. Here is the image in any case:

That's really weird. The link to the obituary works ok and I see the book. Elisabeth was also very kind and sent me the link via email, but had no chance!
BTW, the page posted by James is what I needed. And a special thanks also to Elisabeth, she sent me the same page, together with the index pages!

HUGS and KISSES to everybody.

Just to confuse you all in 'our ways' with nobility here are some links you may find useful...

1. Search for details of a titled family:
>Family Details<

2. Hereditary Peerages:
>Hereditary Peerages<

3. Scroll down for how to address 'baronets'!
>How to addrees the nobility<

Livio, question! That arms for Drake, where did you get it? Was your great-grandfather James Drake authorized to use this one?

I only ask because it very well may help us establish from which Drake (and there are heaps) family he belongs. There are a few Moses Drake families in England, mostly in Yorkshire. If in fact your grandfather James Drake used the Exact Coat of Arms (legally, because there are laws governing who is and who is not able to carry specific arms) then we can search for it and find his true ancestry.

The arms you posted for Drake belong to the Drake of Ashe family.

Drake of Ashe

Not just any Drake could use them, only the direct descendants. Sir Francis Drake himself attempted to use these arms (claiming a relationship), in the end he was not permitted for lack of familial proof. Instead, Queen Elizabeth I awarded him his own Arms, which are completely different (naturally).

Jim
