I'm new to this website, but have spent a great deal of time on the Italian Genealogy website where everyone has been very helpful. I've been reseaching my MGGF and MGGM who were both born in Caulonia. I'm anxiously awaiting copies of their birth certificates. I'm really happy to have found this website! I'm hoping to get to know all of you better as I continue on with my research! Smile

Can you tell us a bit more about your family? I have some Caulonia microfilms on permanent loan at my FHC and a few friends of mine also have many records from there. Perhaps we can help you?

Hi there Nuccia!

My maternal great grandparents' names were Vincenzo Ali and Maria Virgola. Vincenzo was born in Caulonia in 1864. Maria was also born in Caulonia, but in 1882. I am uncertain as to the exact spelling of Maria's surname. My mother told me that Maria's surname was Virgola, but I've been unable to locate that name on any ship manifest from Ellis Island. I've sent a letter to the Ufficio di Stato Civile, Comune di Caulonia requesting copies of their birth certificates. Hopefully after I receive that information, I'll finally be able to put to rest what Maria's surname was. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Smile

Thanks for the warm welcome, Emmy! Yes, researching genealogy is quite the disease! I've been doing research on my maternal side for the past two years. It's definitely been very challenging and enlightening at the same time. I look forward to finding out more information as my journey continues. Who knows? Maybe some day I'll even get the chance to visit a long lost relative in Italy! My goal is to visit Italy in the next few years! Very Happy

Hey Lynne..seems I don't have the years you are looking for - yet! But I think I know someone that does and I have already messaged him to see if I can get at list the indici. I know he made me a CD last week and mailed it out but I don't know whats on there yet. I will definitely let you know the minute I get it.

Hi Lynne. Yes, I have heard from him and he doesn't have those copied. His family history center is closed for the summer but promises to look once it opens. Meanwhile, I am going to try another person.

One way or another we will get you those records (although it may take a while). I haven't forgotten about you - promise!
