Here is additional information that I'm posting for Cito. I think this has some great clues for the family while they were in England.

1901 Canadian census

1902 Toronto City Directory

Family notes (please note the church Menotti was baptized in and it's location)

I'm going to try and search the English records for that church (if there are any) and see if there might be information on the family. I know there are other members of Gente that are better then I at records from England.......maybe some of them will jump in and give some suggestions about obtaining information from the church.

In the family notes for Menotti's baptism....can anyone make out what it says before the word East? I can read S. Georges but I can't read the next word. Also, is anyone of our members that live in England familiar with this church? Maybe Cito can write to the parish and request a copy of the baptism.

Thanks in advance for any help Smile

The first part of the word is faded. It seems to end with ....the. Could it be an abbreviation for Cathedral? So that it would read: Rev. Bryan Ring, Rector of S. George Cathedral, East London, England. Just a guess as I don't live in England.

That's great information Ada. I clicked on the parish website link and it has some wonderful history about the parish and it looks like Cito can send an email to them. Lets hope this church is it Smile

I found two more pieces of information ...... a Cassini mosaic and tile company from the 1890's in Cincinnati Ohio (advertisement from 2 different years). My guess would be that it's the same Cassini family (but it's just a guess)

You may want to contact the city office of Cincinnati to see if there might be old records that were kept. I did that for the mining company that my grandfather had worked at and found a lot of fantastic information. The mine had closed down in the 1930's but the village still has all the records.

thanks for picking up on this angle of the baptisim. The copy that I have is quite faded but it definitely reads as
M. Cassini Born Wed 26 Apr 1843
Baptised by Rev Bryan Ring
Rector of St. Georges in the East
London, England

I have looked up the church and it is still in exsistance. They do have an archives and I shall see how I make out with that angle.

This is exciting for me.

I found out some more information that might be useful. I searched for parish records St. Georges of the east and came up with this link

www.parishregister.com...chpage.asp

Although I found no Cassini (the name may have been misspelled) I read through a few things on the site. One of the interesting things I came up with is this

The database is compiled from transcriptions of the original registers, stored at the London Metropolitan Archives and then manually entered onto an Access database.

Every attempt has been made to include the entry as it appears. Whilst most of the registers are fairly clear, there are some faded or illegible entries.

A blank field can indicate a missing or an illegible entry. The spelling of words is that given in the Register and not it's modern equivalent. Where an entry has obviously been misspelt, no correction has been made. Eg Niendroff/Niendorff.

There are many entries that are added out of sequence at a later date. This is particularly true of Baptisms of inmates at the St George in the East Infirmary and the St George in the East Workhouse, of which there are plenty.

If anyone has a subscription to ancestry UK could you please try to look up Menotti and/or his family in the workhouse records? I believe that is where we might find him (and his family).

Let me know what you think

One more piece of information

ST.GEORGE'S-IN-THE-EAST, St. George in the East, Cannon Street Road [out of Stepney 1729] – still open
St. George's-in-the-East, Christ Church, Watney Street [1841] - now gone??
St. George's-in-the-East, St. John, Grove Street [before 1879] -now gone???
St. George's-in-the-East, St. Mary. Johnson Street (Cable Street) [1850] still open
St. George's-in-the-East, St. Matthew, Princes Square [before 1890] - now gone???
St. George's-in-the-East, St. Peter, Old Gravel lane, London Dock [ 1866] - still open
St. George's-in-the-East, St. Saviour's Mission [?]

I'm hoping this is going to be helpful in some way.
