I wrote the following letter in English and used the cfomputer translation package to translate it to Italian. Does it convey my message and request for info? The english version follows the letter in Italian. I tried to keep the english letter simple.

Thanks as usual,

Nico

Egregio Signore;

Saverio è venuto negli S.U.A. in circa 1900, Alfonso è venuto in 1902 e Pasqualina è venuto negli anni 20.

Francamente,
Nicholas Procaccini

English

My name is Nicholas Procaccini and I live in Evans, Georgia, USA. Based on the research I have conducted my grandparents came to America from Panni, Foggia in the early 1900’s. I am interested in finding my relatives in Italy and learning something about my ancestry. I am writing to you because you may be my relative, if not I apologize for bothering you.

Background: My great grandfather Antonio Procaccini married Rosaria Senerchia in Panni. They had 6 children Saverio (my grandfather), Alfonso, Pasqualina, Scolastia, Raffaela, and Concetta. Saverio came to the USA in about 1900, Alfonso came in 1902 and Pasqualina came in the 1920’s. Scolastia, Raffaela and Concetta stayed in Italy to help their family. Alfonso lived in Brooklyn, New York and Saverio and Pasqualina came to Providence, Rhode Island.

Rosaria Senerchia was the brother of Emmanuele Senerchia. He was the first teacher of the Pannese band before he went to America.

I found the following letter from my grandfather in which he discusses land that they owned in Panni. Maybe this will help locate my family.

My grandfather Saverio married Maria Bambina DeGalia and they had 3 children, Pasqualina married Antonio Melino and they traveled to the USA together.

I hope that this is enough information. If you believe that we are related, please contact me by mail or email. I can translate your letter so please write in Italian. I will pay for any expenses you have in contacting me.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Procaccini

Nico,

I can't help with the translate (that is better left for the experts) but I would leave out the part about owning the land. From everything I have read, this tends to be a touchy subject when trying to locate family. Some may think you have a ulterior motive.

Another suggestion..just to keep it really simple, is include a copy of your pedigree instead or with the explanation. It may be easier to follow.

Here's one I just started and have put it online:

www.calabriaexchange.c...igree.html

Maybe others have other ideas?

I agree with Nuccia. Leave out the letter about the property. Keep it short and simple. Enclose your pedigree chart and a picture of yourself and your family. Make sure to include your e-mail address.

Gentile Signor ...
Mi chiamo Nicholas Procaccini e vivo negli Stati Uniti, e precisamente a Evans, in Georgia.

Costoro vendono i seguenti beni posti a Panni:
Antonio Procaccini
a) Un terreno a Felitti e Malandrino di circa 31 are.

Scriva tranquillamente in Italiano.

Cordialmente

Nicholas Procaccini

Luca,

Thank you for your help. I will take your advise and eliminate the part about land. Instead I will reference that the family lived at these addresses. Also what did you think about the computer translation? was it readable in Italian?

Thanks a million,

Nico
