Does anyone here volunteer to index, online for the FHL?
Just curious, if you are, how its going. Do you do it when you can..is there a time limit to how long you take? What if you want to stop? What if you cant read the record?
I have been thinking about doing this for a while, but, I dont want to bite off more than I can chew.
I have gained so much from their records, that I feel this would be my thank you.

I did it for a while when they first began the project but it just didn't work for me. Maybe it was because the project was so new or my computer too old but I couldn't get the images to save at all. It wasn't hard though and I did enjoy it very much but I have so much on my plate right now that when I got the new PC I just couldn't add another project.
Give it a try. They won't bother you if you choose not to continue and no one ever emails you. They just remove that particular download from the PC after a week and you don't get another project unless you request and download it.

Well, my computer is new..so that shouldnt be a problem..unless its too new and their program wont work on vista. I am familiar with records, so thats no problem...I just worry about reading the handwriting on some. And as long as they remove it if you cant do it, i might give this a shot. I had considered it before..but, first, my computer was old..then second, I worried about what I was getting myself into.
Thankis for the reply. I was waiting for someone to say..oh just try it..lol

Well, I took the plunge. It isnt bad. I was able to complete 3 full pages of alabama census. The way they have it setup..its pretty easy to zoom across a line.
I did have trouble with some names. The first census was very clear and the guy had decent writing. The next two werent as good. I was spending a lot of time, zooming in and out, with some names. Some, you couldnt make out at all. I also saw a lot of errors made by the person taking the info. It almost looked like he filled in some blanks when he got home..just going down the list and sticking in yes for the read/write area. He had babies able to read. He also messed up on some childrens, parents birth place. It would have a parent being born in another state..and when you got to their children, he had alabama written as the parents birth place. I didnt fix his mistakes..what I saw..I entered.
I caught one error I made on the first sheet..when I began the second..and that was the family numbering. I realized that on sheet one..I didnt change it when I should have.
I am really not concerned. I have used the fhl and ancestry indexes for records (transcribed by individuals) and wow..are they ever off.
So..I did the best I could.

Nuccia. I have a quick question.
Did you ever index the trento baptisims?
Apparently, they download to you 3 pages at a time. For the life of me, I cant find pages 2 and three. I cant find a place to bring them up. I actually lost my first finished page, in trying to bring up page two.
Along the bottom, I can see that it says image 1 of 3..but, cant seem to find the others. It wont let me submit the batch..with just one page done, unless I fill the rest of it with the <blank> entry.
They are now trying to send me the Indian censuses. I did one..I have been sending the rest back..but they seem to be stuck on sending those. I have been choosing from the list, instead. I am getting real fast at the regular censuses.
Oh..before someone thinks I dont like native americans..lol..the reason I dont like their census..is because they are in two pieces. You first enter the info from the first part..then to get the rest of the info..you need to scroll way down to the second sheet and find the person on that. It takes me longer to do half the amount of names, than I can do on a regular census.
