In the next days i'll call again mr. Palumbo (the registrar in Roccapiemonte) and i'll ask again for the civil records (now we have the exact dates and he can't say: "sorry, i found nothing..." ).
Bye
Luca

This is the extract from the Sttao delle Anime 1855, a kind of Census kept by the Church.
he [Giovanni Rescigno] got married on Nov 23 1834
Giovanni Rescigno (1) (from the Village of padre Alfano [the actual name is frazione Casali]) born to Gennaro and Cecilia Calabrese 1810
Angela Maria Angrisano born May 18 1810 to Filippo and Vincenza De Angelis
... follows a list of 7 children of Giovanni and Angela Maria with their birht date. Nr 1 was still-born and nr 6 died when he was 16mth.
(1) most likely born in 1810 since he was 45 in 1855, when the stato delle anime was compiled. Carpenter. "family that lives in a Christian spirit".

Thank you for the translations. Was carpenter his occupation?
Can I request the same information for a later time period to see if there were other children?

This is what Don Pompeo was able to find. I think he scanned well the register and i don't think there were other informations.
If i were in Roccapiemonte i could check it for you... but i'm 300 km from there ( ) and, for me, it's better do not disturb him again.
I'll try with the "Stato Civile preunitario" (Mr. Palumbo)

With the new more exact information the luck would be better with the Stato Civile more so than in the past. But, with the dates I am dealing with wouldn't the request be addressed to to the Salerno Archives?. They certainly won't feel they are doing my research. All of this is a BIG IF!... Did people always register with the State as well as baptism in the church prior to 1870?

Since we are dealing with records that come before 1865, I was told to address requests to the State Archives in Salerno rather than the local Stato Civile. If this is incorrect please let me know.
Because of records I was needing in Palermo prior to 1865 I was told to use the Palermo State Archives. Anything after that date I was to write to the commune itself. Of course for the State Archives I needed to have more exact information.
It could be that Mr. Palumbo in Roccapiemonte was correct and could not indeed locate the records prior to 1865 for my family.
