Sometimes I get emails with illustrations that dont seem to be posted as an attachment. If I try to download them to my picture folder I cant get the image to appear only a square box with dots in it is transferred to my picture folder. When I'm saving it I have chosen to save it as a jpeg I haver also tried saving it as bitmap and that doesnt work either when trying to find a place to open up the picture it says it cant find the source to open it Is there any way around this?

Did you try to right-click on the image. You may see pop-up menu with the option "Save image as..."

It might also help when posting about a problem to mention what operating system one is using as well as the specific program being used, for example, Windows XP Home Edition and Thunderbird. Just a thought, although Livio advice seems to be right on.

Thanks Livio and tbjrn
Livio I have tried that .That is usually the way I save my pictures but with some images nothing seems to work. I've got windows XP and I have Mozilla firefox and use Google I did notice that on this specific email Yahoo was mentioned just wonder if that had anything to do with it?
Thanks agaion

Emmy, I reread your post several times. You cant save a pix and choose the format (like bmp, jpg, gif). You have to save it, in the format it comes in, then if you want some other format, you need to go download a graphic file converter. This will convert it to the format you want.
When you get a pix in your mail..or see something anywhere online that you want to save...just right click the pix, choose "save image as"..and whatever the file ending is, you have to take it like that.
You can see what I mean, by right clicking on your avatar of the two ladies with hats. Choose save image as. You will notice, the file ending is jpg. Now scoot up to tjbrn's post. Do the same thing on the "no avatar pix there. You will notice, thats a gif. You cant change that to jpg and have the pix show then..you have to take it as a gif and if you wanted to make a jpg out of it..you need that file converter.
I hope I didnt misunderstand what you said, but it sounds to me like you are trying to change the file endings when you select to download something. You cant do that.

Thanks Eleven I went back to the email and when I right click it I dont get all the choices that came up when I clicked on my avatar-- it just says 'save picture as' and it comes up as a jpeg just like the others which do save the pictures. I think I must have a gremlin in my computer no I better own up
its just ME. I've already managed to lose the sound on my skype phone so I think I'd better wait before downloading the graphic file convertor and when the person comes to fix the skype I'll get him to do it.
Many thanks for everyones help I do appreciate it even although I cant get it to work its not your fault its mine.

Emmy, I didnt see your reply until just now. I probably never scrolled this low the last few times I came on.
Ok..as long as you werent trying to choose a file ending. In that case..I dunno what the problem could be.

Hi Emmy,
Are you sure you have downloaded all the upgrades on offer recently?
I only ask because my Skype and a load of other 'odds and s*ds' had been playing up some time back. I found that I didn't have the 'latest' version. Once downloaded and having done a restart everything went back to how it should be.
Then a few weeks ago Mozilla offered me their latest 'upgrade' - which I kept putting off 'cos I was busy with other things. But my pc was getting slower and slower and started 'doing it's own thing'... despite countless restarts it was still c**p.
Then up popped Mozilla again so this time I did the free upgrade - restarted the computer and 'low and behold' everything is now great!
To check - you could go to Control Panel and open 'Problem Reports and Solutions'...that should be able to help you.

Emmy, when you go to Control Panel you then need to switch to "Classic View". Then you can see the "Problem Support and solutions".
