Whoo Hoo...
Finally you got some great news. Please, do try and post the act that Cathy is referring to. I would also love to see it.
Congratulations again!

Okay, I need help. I scanned the documents but they're too big for Imageshack. Can I email someone the one for my great grandfather and have you post? Grazie.
I think what I may have received were four family certificates. One for Francesco Epfano and family (my great grandfather), and one family cert for each of his three children--Angelo, Antonio and Palma--who married in San Mango.

Email it to me Biff. I can upload it to my wbsite which has no size limitations and link it here. I'm sure we all want to see this one nice and big.

How cool is this!!! Click the link below to see Biff's Situazione di Famiglia Originaria. Biff, I noticed missing death dates. Did those people immigrate?

Cathy,
Thanks bunches. And yes, the missing death dates are for the five brothers who emigrated to the states.
I'm going to scan my great grandparents' integral marriage act later. Can I send to you to post also? If I'm reading it correctly, his father was Domenico and his mother Domenica Marasco--which raises the question why none of the children carry either of those names. As expected Carmela Esposito is "figlia di genitori ignoti."
Question on professions--pastore is shepherd; contadio/a is farmer. What's bracciale?

bracciale = laborer
Of course you can email it to me and I will post it . It would be an honor. No need to ask...anytime - you know my email.
I found a lot of people in my family did not follow the naming tradition. The eldest sons did, but not everyone.

Cathy,
Thanks again for posting the links to the acts. Normally, I would plod through these and try to translate before asking for help but I'm asking for help now since I'd like to know what information they contain asap. I've also somehow mangaed to pick up an eye infection which is going to curtail my activities for a while. How long remains to be seen (no pun intended). I'm trying to get an appointment with my doctor sometime today.
Thanks to everyone.
Best,
Biff

Oh, sorry your not feeling well. I hope you feel better. I have to leave for work now but I will try translating your grandfather's birth act on my lunch hour if noone else does it. I'm going to need a little help here though because it lists the Epifano's address and I cannot make out the number.
How cool is that Biff!! Your ancestral home address!

Biff..
I started translating it this morning because the handwriting is fairly easy to read (at least on the one I was reading). I never posted it because I didn't know you wanted a translation..now at least I have something to do this afternoon.
Eye infection, huh? That time of year...you're looking at at least 3 days.
Don't touch one eye and then the other, you will spread it. Wash your hands often and stay away for your granddaughter (assuming of course that this is conjunctivitis).
I remember having them when I was small and my mom would wash my eyes with cooled chamomile teas, throwing away the wipes as she used them once . I thought it weird, but I did the same thing for my kids (boiled and cooled water works too, I've heard). Definitely takes the stinking off it. The doctor will probably give you drops but there's something about the old Italian remedies that can't be beat.
Let us know what the doctor says, ok?

Here is a very rough translation of the birth act. Next week during my vacation I plan on writing up a word for word translation of the form part of all these documents so all that has to be done is "fill in the blanks". I have a bok that does this - all I have to do is copy it. I will post it here.
1889 on the first day of September at 8:20 in the town hall. Before me, Alfonso Mario (Maria?) Angotti, Secretary (sorry, no capeesh the next 2 lines but I think it has to do with his commision for the state and the fact that the people below are swearing an oath that the information they are giving is true)
Official for the state civil office, for San Mango d’Aquino.
Francesco Epifano, age 46, Shepard, domicile in San Mango, something, something at 5:30 on the 31st of ?? month in their house on via San Guiseppe (I cannot make out this number ) and Carmela Esposito, his legitimate wife. Born, a masculine baby given the name Giuseppe presented to me. The witnesses were Fidele Colosimo, aged 23 farmer and Giuseppe Conforto, age 24 also a farmer. Fidele signed the document but Giuseppe did not.Sorry this is so crude Biff.
If someone can make out the number after Via San Giuseppe, Biff will have their address, which I am sure he would love to have.

Cathy and Nuccia,
Thanks for your help. I can't get an appointment until tomorrow AM with the doctor so I've been using eye drops for relief and trying not to strain my eyes. Not sure if it's conjunctivitis or just an irritation. Nuccia, I'm going to try your Mom's tea bag cure when I get home later. And thanks for the other tips.
Still no baby Isabelle. 38 1/2 weeks and counting. Baby at 7 plus pounds; ambiotic fluid levels still high. Fingers crossed Tropical Storm, soon to be Hurricane Dean, east of the Lesser Antilles doesn't decide to visit Florida next week with a little one on the way. That would definitely not be a good thing.
Biff

I am looking at the marriage act. Nicastro was the place of marriage? I am confused. Anyone? It's at the top of page 1.
