I am not sure but I think this image is from a book. Can someone translate this page for me please?
The image is HERE

Also, this looks like a plate of some sort from a book. It mentions Joseph Scrugli (strangely not Giuseppe - why?). Can anyone tell me what it says?
Joseph Scrugli
Thank you very much.

Book of Memories in which are recorded the marriages of the old family of Scrugli, and the births from 1860 forward, taken from the Parish books of this city of Tropea by Carlo D. Giuseppe Scrugli (son) of Antonio, then Carlo of the Cathdral of this same city, after much work and study...

Also, this looks like a plate of some sort from a book. It mentions Joseph Scrugli (strangely not Giuseppe - why?). Can anyone tell me what it says?
Joseph Scrugli

Well it does say 'Here lies Joseph Scrugli' can't really understand the rest.

But it also says (I think)
4TH calendar for September MDCCCXXXI

M= 1000
D= 500
CCC=300
XXX=30
II=2

So I read the date as September 1832.

Memory Book in which are recorded the marriages of the ancient Scrugli family, and the births beginning with 1569 onward, extracted from the parish books of this town of Tropea by the parish priest Giuseppe Scrugli son of Antonino, later Canon (canonico) of the Cathedral of this town, work that required a lot of labour and studying

Joseph Scrugli

It looks like the inscription (epigraph) on the tomb of Giuseppe Scrugli. It is in Latin and therefore the name is Joseph=Giuseppe.
I would leave the translation to Luca, my interpretation of the first part is:

Here rest the bones of Joseph Scrugli formerly parish priest, then canon of the cathedral church of the town of Tropea...

The date below the epigraph is IV Calendis Septembris MDCCCXXXII. Calendis is the first day of the month... so I don't understand the day number (is it IV or is it Calendis?).
As Carole said it is September 1832.

But thank goodness you DID answer Livio...... I hang my head in shame - I read the year date, on the first page shown, as 1860 - when it seems it was in fact 1569 Rolling Eyes

Sorry Cathy....

Only 291 years out!

OMG! I need that book!!! Many of my family documents are unreadable due to deterioration or missing so I guess I will have to go to Tropea to read this book! Thanks so much Livio and Carole! Did Luca say he cannot understand that plate?

September 1832 is when Giuseppe Scrugli the priest died. He spent his life building up a family library of close to 2000 books and wrote the Scrugli genealogy - I really need that book! His entire library is located at the university founded by the Scrugli's and in Palzzo Scrugli in Tropea. The palazzo has been maintained with it's original furnishings, etc. and I believe it is open to the public. So, I need all three of you, Carole, Livio and Luca to meet me there! Wink

Translation:
Here lie the bones of the most reverend Don Giuseppe Scrugli the priest and the the canon of the cathedral church of the city of Tropea, tutor of the young, theologian, historian, member of the literary society of the Crotonese Sebezia Academy of (!) Fioramonte and others…
which all closed the day (his life)
The fourth day of the calendar for September 1832

In the part that refers to the literary society I was lost a bit, the beginning however should be correct.
