These birth and death documents seem to contradict one another. Am I missing something in the translation?

Non mi sembrano in contraddizione.
Il secondo documento riporta la morte, avvenuta nel 1864, di Stefano Monte, il primo la nascita di un altro Stefano Monte, sempre figlio di Luigi e Francesca ma nato nel 1865.
Come spesso succedeva nei secoli scorsi, i genitori hanno deciso di dare al nuovo nato il nome del fratello morto: nel corso delle mie ricerche mi è capitato un caso nel quale il nome Luigi è stato dato per ben 3 volte nel giro di 3 anni, dopo che i primi 2 bambini erano morti in tenerissima età.
