Thank you very much Ada. I thought her being a teacher might be a little strange, but it is one of those things that made me wonder. As for Giovanni Ponticello, he does seem really old, so my guess is that Rosa was his second wife also. It makes me wonder, how many children he must have had if her is still going at 57! Thank you for the help!! If Picconiere is correct, wouldn't that be a cool (and hard) job for someone!

One last one, and I think I should be caught up for a little while. This is for Vincenzo's mother Maria.

Thank you in advance again!

You're welcome!

Act 204 dated November 22, 1877 for Mamazza Maria

Declarant and father is Salvatore Mamazza, 45y. shoemaker, living in Via Sant'Agostino (Saint Augustin Street), no number. At 11.12 a.m. on November 21, 1877 his wife Francesca Campione, 40y, weaver, gave birth to a girl whom he gives the name Maria.
The declarant and witnesses were not able to write.
On left side, handwritten:
Savoca Giovanni son to Vincenzo married Mamazza Maria daughter to Salvatore on December 20, 1896. Registered with act # 51.

The reason I doubt she was a teacher is that girls were not sent to school in those years. There were usually several children in a family and if there was a chance boys were preferred. Only well-to-do families could send all their children to school.

Ada

Thank you so much Luca! I do have a question, from the first translation. Does "fabbro Pasquale(?) Roscini suo genero" mean that Francesco's father was Roscini or that Pasquale's father was Roscini? Either way is great, because bothe Francesco and Pasquale are my direct ancestors. Thank you so much for your help again, it really brings these people to life! Smile

Pasquale was the husband of Francesco's daughter (his son-in-low).

Thank you Luca! Don't rush! Smile I try to work through it myself, but it is taking me a while to get used to the old script.
