I just wanted to take a moment to remember all of those we lost on 9/11. I am sure it hits all of us hard. For those of us in the tri-state (NY region), I know it is even more poignant. Two of my first cousins were rescue workers there that day. Luckily, they survived, but I will never forget the feeling of not knowing for a day whether they were alive.

Lori,
Thanks for posting this. I wanted to this morning but was rushed for time. I also had family who survived that day..
Unfortunately, this young lady didn't. I wanted to specifically remember her since our surnames are the same and many think we could be related.
She was only 23 years old when she died. So unfortunate a death at such a young age...and so senseless, like all the other deaths on that day.
R.I.P. Victims of 911.
If you visit this post, please, leave a flower or thought for all the victims of that tragic day.

On 9/11, I worked for a man, whose wife was named Merilynn Garcia. She went down to the WTC in the days following the attack to act as a spiritual advisor. She met a woman who was looking for her missing daughter. Overcome with emotion, the woman sat next to Merilynn and began telling her about her young daughter, who worked in the WTC and was missing. The mother said if only she had some word, some sign from God that her daughter was ok. Merilynn asked her what her daughter's name was. The mom showed her her t-shirt with a picture of her daughter. Her daughter's name was Marilyn Garcia! Merilynn said to the mom, I am also Meriylnn Garcia! What a sign! God sent Merilynn as a sign from Marilynn. Gives me chills. BTW, Marilyn, the daughter, perished.

It's hard to believe it was 5 years ago. I did not know anyone who perished that day but my cousins daughter was attending school in NYC and noone could get through to her that day.
There is a tribute to one of the brave fire fighter's who died that day - John Napolitano. It is so beautiful:

My cousin's son should have been there that day but the appointment he had was cancelled. 'There but for the Grace of God go I' was the saying that came to mind.
It's something the world will never forget the day that so many innocent people died and how many also lost their life going to their aid.
I'll remember them all in my prayers.

A sad anniversary of an event which none will forget. One of those World shattering moments of which everyone can remember exactly what they were doing 'when it started' with such clarity and such mental anguish.
For those of us who maintain we are - as we believe - from a 'civilised' society, those hours sitting and watching evil unfold minute by minute before our very eyes was for us all, I'm sure, the worst and most horrific moments we've ever had, or will ever live, throughout our entire lives.
That was a day - with a few notorious exceptions - when suddenly the World seemed to join hands - like never before in history - and share their tears for those being lost in that atrocity. The survivors and the families of all involved will never fully recover....how can they as long as the act itself is still glorified in certain quarters by beings that really do not deserve to be on this earth.
...Forever In Peace Forever Remembered...

Oops Cathy..its six years, not five.
My daughter in laws father works in the world financial center. It took months, before I would even bring the subject up to him. His details of what he viewed and experienced..are chilling.
I also have a niece that lost her husband in tower one.
How senseless it all was. How sick those terrorists were. How scary, that we in this country, are not much better off when it comes to safety.
