Does anyone know how to copy the results a search from this page
www.jewishgen.org/data...ellis.html
produces and import them into Excel? When I try the usual copy/paste it pastes the entire thing into one cell!!

I am trying to make a Carini Passenger ship list and start linking the passengers to records I already have up.
Thanks!
Jim

Can you split the cells? Otherwise you may have to copy & paste each word or name one by one.
If noone else can come up with anything I'll take a better look tonight. It's crazy at work again. If I can't figure it out, my best friend is a HRIS Analyst here and an Excel Diva!! I'll ask her to look.
Can you do a search by town name?

James..there is a way. One of Steve Morse's pages tells you how to actually do it. I did it last year for my ancestors but when my computer crashed I lost everything.
Going to try and have a look to see how it can be done again and let you know..

James,
Once you paste into Excel the little "clipboard" icon will be on the bottom right corner of what you have just pasted. Right-click on the icon and select "Match Destination Formatting" and that should line up everything nicely into columns for you.
Let me know if it works for you, ok

I tried something, when I went to paste the data, I right clicked and did "paste special" then chose "unicode text"....
Voila! It put everything in it's own cell. Thanks Everyone!!
Now that it worked, I have HEAPS of work to do... just what I needed yet another project lol Who am I kidding, I love working on Carini and it's people..

Jim, thanks for this. I did not know you could search by comune. I too would like to put this data up on my website and have been working on this on and off for a couple of years. My searches started out as a way of finding my grandfather's ship record (currently a lost cause). But as I looked at what came up in my search I am more confused than ever. You see, there are several comunes that begin with Montalto and locals often shorted the comune name to Montalto. So the data I have is not pure. So should I just pull the information I know as factual for this comune, put a disclaimer up (about the other comunes) or forget about it? The last thing I want to do is put false data out there. Oh and thanks again - I was able to find several "lost" ship records.
