Hi friends!
I would like to share with you some photos I took the past Sunday, when me and my husband went to Genoa to the "Galata - Museo del Mare" .....
this is the official web site:
portale.galatamuseodel.../index.jsp
You can say.... and then???
Well, as I'm considering you all as my FRIENDS I thought it can be interesting for you to see a few photos of this museum because there is a section (only a little
) dedicated to the emigration from the Genoa Port....
The Museum is really beautiful (they said it's the biggest about this subject in the mediterranean area) ... I have to apoligize because the site is in Italian
.
The Museum building (Galata) is the ancient build survived from the Republic of Genoa, and in it there were built the old boat of those period (from 1600)....
A wonderful section is about the "italian liner" (Transatlantici Italiani) there are many models (the REX is amazing) and there is a big room where you can see a film on the wall describing "life onboard" ....
Some old films about the Immigrants arrivals in Ellis Island....
And on the higher floor people can enter in a cabin pilot and drive the liner from Gibilterra to New York (my husband enjoyed this section soooo much!)
I thought I could find something more about emigration but..... I hope in these next years something will happen.... in 2004 when Genoa was the European capital of culture, in this museum there was a big exposition about emigration but it was temporary....
I put all my photos on Flickr.com but as I'm not a genie with that, I prefere post some images here, if someone is interested in see all the photos, please send me an e.mail so I can invite you on my Album....
