Thanks Riccardo......I live near Philadelphia and we are waiting for the storm to hit in full force later this evening and through the night, but we have already had rain for the last 6 hours. I am also concerned about our small seashore home near Atlantic City....we are getting a "double whammy" with this storm. We can only hope that it weakens as it moves along the coast.

I'm from Massachusetts - grew up there - and also lived in Delaware for 10 years, until moving overseas. So most of my family and friends are back there along the east coast.
To those of you Gente members out there, stay safe. You are all in my thoughts!

I received an email from my cousin in New York - they had quite a bit of flooding but are all safe. I saw some pictures of the damage created and am also concerned about everyone. Hopefully people will stop in and let us know they are safe!

Just to let you know that Debra and family came through the storm OK but she did say it was terrible listening to the wind howling and the rain lashing down all through the night.
Some people will not have been so lucky and will have lost everything my heart goes out to them all.
What with having that earthquake then this it must have been a nightmare
Let us pray that this will be and end to it all.
Emmy

Everything was okay by me thank God. We did lose power for about 24 hours, and internet for almost 2 days (yikes!), but we are all fine. Hope everyone else was as lucky.
I have a feeling we are going to be in for a long winter!

I live one hour north of Times square. We got heavy rains, then nothing for a while..then very, very strong winds later on in the day and evening. I didnt lose power, which really surprised me because usually one slight breeze knocks us out. We got a little water in the basement..and a small leak in the kitchen ceiling..which is from an ongoing leak that we always think is fixed..but then it isnt..lol
Where I live, is very wooded. We all have our own wells and septic tanks. When we lose power here, we dont only lose the lights (and heat in winter), but we lose water (since the pump is electric), therefore, you lose your toilet.
After spending a lot of time on saturday, filling pots, pitchers, bowls, the tub and the washing machine with water..and taking out every candle we own. Buying ice. Taking the ice chest out of the attic, buying food, etc. only to have to pour out all the water and return all of the candles to their spots, today, I am tired of this. I told the husband its time to buy a generator. I'd like to hookup at least the heat, well pump and fridge...and maybe the tv and a light or two. At least we can eat, go to the bathroom..and have something to look at besides each other..lol

Glad to people checking in! I felt like a stalker on Facebook and Twitter over the weekend, constantly asking if people were alright. Thank goodness all of you are doing well!

we dodged two bullets, both here near Philadelphia (a little water in the basement) and at the South Jersey shore near AC where there was no damage.
We expected the worst and we were pleasantly surprised. For many people in the area that was not the case as there has been a lot of damage from fallen trees and flooding.

They are still bombarding us with news in this area (I get my news from metro NYC). Some of the towns in NJ are still evacuating because of rising river waters. Other towns are a real mess (even in upstate NY where there are a lot of rivers, too). People are getting around in row boats..trying to help others get out. Some places had water passed the first floor. They showed one restaurant who had the water level right up to the canopy over the door. They mentioned one city where there was only one road out of the town that wasnt flooded. There are still over 400,000 people in NY state without electric. Somewhat less in NJ and CT. Its supposed to rain again Saturday night.
I guess it could have been a lot worse (coming from someone who didnt get much of anything). While it may not be a big deal to some people after witnessing Katrina, this sure is a big deal for those who have lost a lot of personal property.

I'm also glad to see everyone is ok but I feel for those who lost so much. We felt the strong winds and cooler air from here but that's about all,

Everything fine in Central New York - though my friend in Marin Co. (Calif) was worried because Auburn seemed to be shown often on her stations - unless they meant Auburn Maine. Missed the earthquake. Only some rain here but east of us especially around Albany where there is flooding and reports of a tornado.
Strange weather though - Sunday with the air conditioner and Monday the furnace was on. My friend in Calif says the weather there has been weird too. Another in Maine says they are o.k.

We also had our last heatwave this weekend and Monday we were ready to turn the heat on. I haven't taken off my sweater since - Glad to hear you and your mom are ok.

Don't worry the hot weather didn't disappear for long....we had a lot of rain the last couple of days and the temps dipped down to the 60s....today it is back up and very humid again here in Philadelphia.
