Well I opened the attachment! I feel such a ding! Any way this what it says:

Cristina Giovanni, geb 18.11.1847/48/49:
Ausforchung einer Eintragung in der Stellungsliste uber eine Dienstzeit biem ehemaligen osterr. Heer- (Some letters and numbers!)

Sehr geehtre Frau Christini,

You are the one who taught me not to use Babelfish! Shocked I'm shocked! Shocked
I am so sorry Rosanna. I'm sure that is not the response you wanted. Was that from Germany or Austria? I know of some Arturi's who ended up in Austria before coming to the US. That is why I ask.

Many thanks for the assistance.I appreciate your help very much.
No! It is not the answer I wanted!!!!
I actually do not know if my great grandfather did military service required back then ,I think eighteen was the age.It was a shot in the dark to to find out the comune he was born in.
He was born in November 1847/48 in Trento but am pretty sure he came to NZ in about 1868/69,( On his naturlisation petition dated August 1887 he said he was forty and had been in New Zealand about 19 yrs) so he would have been about eighteen in 1866
,maybe he went somewhere else( Australia possibly) before he came to NZ.
Did they do compulsory military service in the 1860's, you would think so.
I am still waiting on the parrocchia for a battesimo notice for Giovanni. In the mean time I will try to find something on his mother Santa Luchi. Riccardo said in Luchi was a name in Vasugana.I think Pergine Valsugana could be a good start as there is a Luchi in that area on Family History site and the name is in the white pages.Does anyone have a film roll for the parrocchia in Pergine Valsugana.I guess if Giovanni was born in about 1847 and he was her first child( fathers name was Giovanni too) she could have been born from 1827 to 1830,does that make sense? Serso could be a possibility and a few others ,Ill have to post again once I look them up.

Many thanks,
Rosanna.
