Received these records in the mail today. I have an integral birth record for my great grandfather Antonio Rescigno born, I thought, 1946 but shows 1844 on the record with parents Francesco Rescigno and Raffaella Pecoraro.

Now I receive this record showing not only the birth but marriage to an Albano Maddalena in 1896. My great grandmother was Angela Catalano with a marriage about 1871.

I think the records may be of someone else other than my family member. I also received an atti di morte for Antonio of 1913 in Roccapiemonte but my Antonio died in Gabes, Tunisia in 1912. I do have his death record from there.

I also inquired about an Antonia Rescigno naturalized in Gabes, Tunisia and wondered if she was a direct relation or not. Doesn't look like it.

Can someone translate the documents so I may try to clear up any confusion I may have and any opinions you may have.

Hi Lilbees I dont know if its just my computer but the first link just takes me to Imageshack as if I wanted to download an article and the other 3 links just has FORBIDDEN (in capital letters) at the top of an otherwise blank page.
Perhaps someone else could check to find out if the links work for them

So sorry...I am trying to upload the documents and doing something wrong. At first they are too big and then on the next try they are too small. I will get it right soon.

I thought I should also post the atti di morte I received from Tunisia for my great grandfather.

This letter from the Comune of Roccapiemonte states that they found 3 records, namely
- Birth act of Antonio Rescigno b Nov 26 1844
- Birth act of Antonia Rescigno b Sep 9 1847
- Death act of Antonio Rescigno b Nov 26 1844 d Apr 4 1913
They attached the certificates.

img91.imageshack.us/im...ccabe6.jpg
from this act you also learn that Antonio was widower of Maddalena Albano (2nd wife)

img91.imageshack.us/im...monsc9.jpg
from this act you learn that Antonio was son of Francesco and Raffaela Pecoraro and that he married Maddalena Albano

img91.imageshack.us/im...monid6.jpg
Antonia was daughter of Francesco and Caterina Caso.

The Burial act that I translated in my previous post shows that Antonio Rescigno was born in Castellammare da Roch., how did you get Roccapiemonte.

Castellammare da Roch does not exist, we have 2 Castellamare in Italy, one is Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) and the other is Castellamare del Golfo (Trapani Sicily).
In Castellammare di Stabia there are a few Rescigno (there are none in Castellammare del Golfo)

Thank you so much Livio.

I have been confused from the beginning. The only information I had for my great grandfather's birthplace was from a ship's manifest when he visited my grandfather here in the US in 1910. On the manifest it stated he was from Roccapiemonte. Therefore my search for family led me to Roccapiemonte and many letters and research assistance from Ricardo. We received Antonio's integral birth act back in February from Roccapiemonte but it stated he was born in 1844 when I was understanding that he was born 1846. So....I kept writing to learn more information to see if I could narrow things down. Then I received Antonio's atti di morte from Tunisia which I knew for sure was where he was living and where my grandfather Vincenzo was born. I also knew for sure because of death records in the US that his wife was Angela Catalano which was born out by the birth of other children in Tunisia and the marriage of one who also later came to the US. So, still confused I wrote to Castellamare del Golfo and to Castellammare di Stabia. I have not received a reply from them as yet. I requested birth/marriage/death information for Antonio and Angela.

Because the Prelature in Tunis could not locate the birth records for my grandfather and 3 of his sisters (who are the oldest children of Cool I also requested integral birth acts for each of them from the same 2 communes.

Again, I am waiting for any reply from either of the communes.

I also wrote to the commune of Palermo because on one of the death records for Giuseppa, living in Chicago, stated she was born in Palermo. This was given by her father-in-law who was also from Palermo. On the other death records for those here in the US they all said Gabes, Tunisia.

I apologize for the lenght of this response but I thought you would like some clarification on the situation. Neutral

lilbees

Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated.

Did you try at any FHC to find the birth/death acts?

Livio,

Other than writing letters, I have not tried the FHC. I should check to see if they have films for the 2 communes. Since they did not have films for Roccapiemonte, I just didn't bother to check about the other communes.

Will see what I can find there today. Maybe I will get lucky.

Thank you for your suggestion. kiss

If you are sure that Antonio died inTunisia and that the one you posted is the right record, the Antonio of Roccapiemonte is quite another person because he is son of Francesco and not of Giovanni.
Do you know were Angela Catalano was from? Usually the marriage took place in the town of the bride, so you could search there for some more info.

At this point I don't really have a clue. Only what is on some of the birth records.

img131.imageshack.us/i...rthqn4.jpg

This record says Castellamare de Napoli. I took this to mean Castellammare di Stabia. I have written there for any records.

I agree that it is very likely Castellammare di Stabia, where there are still some Rescigno families.
