I am hoping someone with an Ancestry World Explorer subscription can look up a record for me and perhaps email an image of the record itself. The record is listed in Palermo, Italy Marriages 1820-1895. The particulars are: Angela Dragotto born in 1865 to Ignazio Dragotto and Grazia Pizzo married Salvatore Marasa 7 Mar 1890 in Palermo. I can probably check this out when I get a chance to use the free library edition when I have a little more time to do so. I'm not certain that Ancestry actually provides a digital image for this record or if it is just text. I checked the records on FamilySearch.org and did not find the record there although there were marriage records from Palermo during the above mentioned time period.

Thanks,
Tom

I found this, don't know if you click on the link if it will take you to the page, it's not an actual picture of the record though.
His fathers name is Benedetto Marasa & his mothers name is Maria Seranella
The best thing if you don't find it already translated on Family Search would be to go through ALL the records. Sad Good Luck

Thanks, Gina. I have a few questions. Your reference to FamilySearch translating the record piqued my curiosity. Did you really mean translating the record from Italian into English or updating the records already available with new records? If it is a matter of translating from Italian, I can manage enough for my purposes as long as I can read the handwriting and the info is not too complex.

I can't get to the record because my current Ancestry subscription is for the US. Since Angela Dragotto was born in Belmonte Mezzagno, I expected her marriage record to be in that comune--I thought that was the tradition. Angela is my GG Aunt. Did the record state where she was born? How about other information such as ages of any of the party, where they were born, any of the parents deceased? I know Ignazio Dragotto died 21 Oct 1879 but I don't know about Grazia Pizzo except that she was much younger than Ignazio, his third wife, in fact.

Perhaps, but I can find no trace of Acquasanta as a comune in the province of Palermo.

Tom I can't reference to it either. Maybe this is where we need to call for help from our Sicilian friends???? I will send out an SOS.
And thank you both for the kind words about Gente. I know with Facebook and Twitter forums are not what they used to be but I still prefer the more intimate feel of a forum. Smile

I asked for help on the town / province & this is the reply I got:
"after some looking around, Acquasanta seems to be a village in Palermo. you would have to look under the province of palermo and then the comune of Palermo to find records. if someone found any other information please feel free correct me

Familysearch.org does have records listed for the comune of Palermo but there is no record for the marriage of Angela Dragotto on 7 Mar 1890 to Salvatore Marasa. I haven't searched through all of the Allegati listed for that time period as they are not in any particular order that I can discern which is a departure from my experience with other Allegati. So it seems that I will have to order microfilm to search for the marriage document.

I'm still puzzled why the marriage was not performed in Belmonte Mezzagno where Angela Dragotto was born. I thought it was tradition to marry in the wife's home community.

Thanks for all the additional information.

Tom

You're welcome. I'm hoping when I go through the listings for Bivona, I don't have too much trouble.
